Our new 2023-24 season starts on Wed 04 Oct 23, for anyone with an interest in Photography, and living within Perth, Perthshire, Perth and Kinross, and surrounding areas in Scotland.
We have an exciting programme to look forward to, with a mixture of speakers, workshops, competitions, and more.
Newcomers are very welcome to register online, and come along to meet us for a couple of weeks, with no commitment. That gives you the chance to decide if you like what you see. Or you can jump straight in with new or renewed membership. Either way, go to the online form at How do I join? to register.
Meanwhile, you can get a taste of what we do at our current exhibition at Birnam Arts, which runs until Sun 08 Oct (closed Thu 05 Oct), including Meet the Artists days, on: Fri 29 Sep; Tue 03 Oct; Fri 06 Oct.
One exciting feature of the upcoming PPS season is our new novice development programme. After last year’s pilot scheme, this year we’re offering a more structured support to members who identify as novice photographers. Check out our Novices page and see some more Before and After images from our current ‘novices’.
Meanwhile, you can get a taste of what we do at our current exhibition at Birnam Arts, which runs until Sun 08 Oct (closed Thu 05 Oct). Around half of the images on display are by members who have been in our pilot novice group! We have Meet the Artists days on: Fri 29 Sep; Tue 03 Oct; Fri 06 Oct.
We all like a good photo, do we not – but do the photos we take match what we feel when we take them? How can we convey ‘that moment’ better?
Many PPS Members have found that joining a club gives them greater insight into how to take and make a good photo.
Our exhibition in Birnam Arts has over 50 prints, with another 70+ digital images on display – and around half of these are by new members who have never exhibited before.
“Following my dream trip to Antarctica in December 22 I joined the Perthshire Photographic Society, which has greatly helped me to grow my photography skills through the support, guidance, and inspiration of other members” – Nicole
“Until now, I have never shown any of my photographs to anyone other than my family and friends. I do enjoy photography, and thanks to my PPS mentor, I now have the confidence to show some of my images” – Paul
You can catch their work at our current exhibition at Birnam Arts, which runs until 08 Oct.
Hi everyone! Welcome to the website of the Perthshire Photographic Society. That’s a rather formal sounding title but let me assure you that we are a down to earth, friendly and welcoming group and if you have an interest in photography, we would like to meet you!
You do not have to be a photographic expert to join us! There are currently 70 of us, with a wide range of skill levels from novice to experienced. We currently have a lot of new members who are thoroughly enjoying the experience of learning how to use their cameras and how to edit their photos. Indeed, as well as the programme that you can see on this website, we offer extra tuition to those who believe that it is of benefit to them. This tuition takes place during workshops, online Zoom talks and photo walks.
Why don’t you come and meet us? We meet weekly between October and March, at 7:30pm on Wednesday evenings, at the A K Bell Library in Perth. We usually meet in the Soutar Lecture Theatre, with our workshop evenings taking place downstairs in the former cafe.
Our programme of events has something for everyone, including presentations by some of the UK’s leading photographers. We also have presentations from our own members, plus a variety of photographic workshops, and internal and external competitions.
In addition, we occasionally organise exhibitions and it’s fun, and rewarding, showing our work to the public!

You are very welcome to come along for a couple of weeks, with no commitment, to meet us. That gives you the chance to decide if you like what you see! In addition to our weekly gatherings, we have a Facebook group – Perth Photo Forum – which provides an online place to learn from discussion of photography, by and for the people of Perth, Perthshire, Perth and Kinross, and surroundings, here in Scotland (Aussies, you’re too far away). Information about our informal photo outings will be posted to the Forum. These photo walks usually take place from April to September.
On Wednesday 20 Sep you will be able to meet some of the artists with work on the wall in our exhibition at Birnam Arts.
Ian and John will again have a few co-artists available most of the day to show you round, answer questions, talk to you about photography, point you to the cafe, and more!
They’re just some of the 20 artists exhibiting prints between now and 08 Oct.
Watch out for other dates, with other artists to speak to, during the exhibition’s run. You can of course visit at other times too, whenever the gallery is open.
This Thursday at Birnam Arts you can visit our exhibition, and meet some of the artists with work on the wall.
Ian, John and Bob will be available most of the day to show you round, answer questions, talk to you about photography, point you to the cafe, and more!
They’re three of the 22 artists exhibiting prints between now and 08 Oct.
Perthshire Photographic Society is one of the oldest of its kind in Scotland, maybe even the UK. Lots of PPs members are very experienced photographers.
We have been closely involved with Birnam Arts for many years, running a biennial exhibition of work until Sun 08 Oct 23. The 2023 exhibition is in place, and was informally opened on Saturday with a gathering of almost 50 members and their significant others.
But this year, something is different. In 2023, many of our exhibitors are new to PPS, some are even new to photography, and are showing their work, in public, for the very first time. For many people it is quite a daunting challenge – to print your picture, get it framed and hang it on a gallery wall for strangers to look at. This year, more than half of our prints are by people who have never exhibited in public before. Come along. Take a look at the pictures and give your feedback.
The prints are just upstairs from the cafe, which is itself an ideal destination for light meals and snacks, and quick to get to from Perth now all the lanes on the A9 are fully open. Also accessible by train!
